Alicia Evangelides is the Director for the WJP Rule of Law Index at the World Justice Project. In this role, she directs data collection, analysis, and production of the WJP's flagship WJP Rule of Law Index report, which measures adherence to rule of law in 140 countries and jurisdictions worldwide. Alicia also leads the household data collection effort for the European Union Subnational Project at the WJP, covering 114 regions within the EU. While on the research team, Alicia has also co-managed the administration of the WJP's General Population Poll (GPP) in 128 countries and led special data collection efforts in Central America and the Caribbean.
Prior to joining the WJP in July 2016, Alicia worked at Columbia University’s Global Policy Initiative, a small research initiative designed to bridge the gap between academia and policymaking. She has worked for various other nonprofit organizations, such as Rotary International, Internews, The Advocacy Project, and the International Institute of Boston. Her areas of interest include international human rights and humanitarian law (particularly enforcement and compliance mechanisms), alternative and informal dispute settlement mechanisms, and governance metrics. She has conducted research on tribal women’s courts in western India and on the consequences of extreme inequalities for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Alicia holds a Master of International Affairs degree from the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University, where she studied human rights and quantitative analysis. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations and Spanish from Tufts University.
